'county' ship Matilda. The 3 ships were reported all well on 5 Oct in lat
45.65N long 11.38 W. On 21 Dec 1806 the Skelton Castle appears to have
foundered with all her passengers and crew. According toa contemporary account
the Skelton Castle sailed from Plymouth on or about 24 Sep 1806 waws seen and
parted company from the Union and the Matilda on 10 or 11 Dec 1806 in lat 30S
long 12W and was never seen or heard of again. No less than 20 Bengal Cadets
in addition to 2 field officers lost their lives on this occasion.

" Sacred to the memory of/Thomas Woodyatt Esq. of Holly Mount in this parish late a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy, eldest surviving son of George Woodyatt of Worcester M.D. by Hannah his wife, one of the daughters of Thomas Freemen of Suckley in this county Esq.. at an early age he entered the navy in which for 16 years he was employed in active and varied service until the close of the war, endured with talents of no common order and of disposition naturally ardent and liberal, he was foremost in promoting every scheme of utility and improvement which could contribute to the welfare or ornament of his neighbourhood, warm hearted generous and sincere, and free in a remarkable degree form the bane of selfishness, he spared not himself so that he might serve and profit others. He married in 1818 Harriet , the youngest daughter of Michael Biddulph Esq. of Ledbury in the county of Hereford and Cofton Hall in this county, by whom he had no issue. He died greatly lamented on 6th day of June 1841 in his 50th year of his age and his remains were by his own desire interred in the adjoining churchyard, this memorial of affection was erected by his surviving widow who in much sorrow dedicates this marble to record her own bereavement and her husbands worth. His widow died on the 31st January 1863 in her 88th year and was buried in the same Vault."
